Cloud computing is nothing new?
Cloud computing is a buzzword that has recently conquered the web hosting industry by storm, but cloud computing is really something new? The basic concept of cloud computing is to remove the burden of heavy processing and memory usage by the customer or end-user systems and take care of the difficult problems "in the cloud" with a very dynamic cluster server. Dynamic means that the cluster server can contain dozens, hundreds or even thousands of machines. A downed machine can be easily removed and replaced without the daily operations and filing of the cloud. The method by which this is achieved is certainly new. The concept is a return to the old days, before the PC revolution was in full swing.
During the 70's and 80's computers were often very large central machines. This is a time when super-computers have the most work. These super-computers were monstrous, and a single computer would fill an entire room. More often than not have employees who would work on the computer was low-end systems, or "dumb terminals", the small number crunching power of their own use. These dumb terminals would be just an interface with the computer monstrosity in the next room. This was a necessity to the time since the more powerful desktop computers of the day often lacked the resources to cope with the tasks required in daily work. These super-computers or mainframes, "home to the large amounts of expensive memory, hard disks and computing power. This allowed companies to minimize costs by buying dumb terminals at a fraction of the cost of doing better able workstations, and still the task.
Of course, technology improves and swept the personal computer revolution in our homes, schools, offices, and in our daily lives. Research in computational technology, memory and improved memory and miniaturized computers exponentially year after year after year. It will be expensive to get the "big iron", as it was a large number of well-performance workstations or home and office PC's to create. Since it was expensive to keep a refrigerator size 16 and 32-processor mainframe (sometimes more) experts tried a cheaper solution, consisting of networked computers at home are working together on the same tasks to build. This house built in multi-computer systems have been known as a cluster server. Do at this point in time most of the work may introduce any necessary treatment in their more industrious home PC's. However, since these fields has been further advanced once again that carry a condition for a super-computer processing outside the government account. Fortunately, cluster servers were willing to step up to the plate.
Who's with enough players to build their own cluster server in their home country with plenty of old computers, with order. Home computers had become powerful enough that was clustered with several moderately powerful computers in the same direction attract more CPU power than a mainframe cost several times more to produce. Cluster Server records held as soon as processing power and began to written documentation from the last machine to break expensive supercomputers. Cluster had the advantage of easily expanded simply by adding another PC on the network, which was created to become a node in the cluster. This would soon revolutionize data centers around the world. Cluster Server was well in "render farms used for 3D animation, or for the study of mathematics, physics, cryptography and started on the tasks, to break the back even for the most home PC's.
By considering the recent recession, many people twice before a few thousand dollars for a machine that will be obsolete within a year. Many can be for the less computer for under a thousand dollars. These machines do not pack the punch for high-end gaming or productivity needs, but they are good for school and office work most of the time. In addition, we are seeing new initiatives for cheaper computers, particularly to do with ambition, "which brought a hundred-dollar laptop" and a laptop in the hands of every child on the planet so that everyone has the opportunity to learn and a part of the digital age. To these cheaper computers we build come full circle at a time, because not justify the cost and performance of individual machines among the masses. These low-cost computers would ultimately for all but the simplest tasks, but thanks to the concept of cloud computing, they are quickly becoming a reality impractical.
The new machines bare some resemblance to the idea of the old dumb terminals. In a sense, cloud computing just a buzzword for today's "mainframe", except that Cloud Computing is on multiple machines in any number of locations whereas an old mainframe, a single mega-machine. For example, an old mainframe, there was one place and you would never think of the displacement. The mainframe was only in terms of processing power and scale as well as its motherboard had space for. With cloud computing, the cluster can in theory scale to any number of machines. These machines have not even in the same room or from the same country. A modern version of a mainframe could be hundreds or thousands of individual computers are interconnected, and they can work together from several different locations around the world. If a data center goes out of the cloud keeps running minus a few hp.
Cloud computing is not a new idea how the industry would have us believe, but give it some new features, and open some doors that old mainframe never. Cloud computing is going to grow only so many companies, their niche, and revenue by providing cloud hosting, or cloud based applications trying to locate. Google remains on top of that, with their constantly innovative suite of online tools such as Gmail, Google Docs and more. One of the largest cloud computing Google's ambitions is to bring to Africa and the 3rd World into the information age.
All you need is a mobile phone or a PDA or a cheap netbook with an Internet connection. The cloud will be to take the heavy processing, while giving the tools and storage on line and also the requirement for expensive hardware to the masses in their own country.
While some might find reason to be on the expensive PCs are, in the future will be much more casual computer users and lightweight, users find that cloud computing meets their needs while their desk space hanging freely. Even those who need high-end machines to run applications in the cloud at times. In some cases the requirements of an application are too high for their home PCs. Or could it be, because cloud computing makes it faster and easier exchange of data with others, how & with Google Docs. Regardless, it is obvious that the cloud computing revolution is here to stay and could one day be described as a revolution, that the 3rd World on line.
